The Specialty Center for Periodontics Dental Implants
2 Procedures That Make Dental Implants Possible
At the LANAP & Implant Center, we offer a variety of tooth replacement options for patients needing to take back control of their oral health, have a smile they feel good about, and a higher quality of life than they’ve had in a long time.
That’s because we have a team of specialists who have the expertise, experience, and technology to provide high quality dental implants that will restore function and beauty to even the most damaged smile.
But not everyone qualifies for dental implants. At least, not at first. That’s one of the reasons people travel to our Philadelphia dental offices from all over the country. When they’ve been turned down for dental implants, they believe their tooth replacement is no longer possible. We’re able to give those patients hope when all hope feels lost thanks to two effective procedures. Keep reading to find out more!
Two Procedures That Make Dental Implants Possible
If you’ve considered dental implants before but have been told you’re not a good candidate for them, it can really zap any hope you had for finally replacing your missing teeth. Afterall, dental implants are the best tooth replacement option in modern dentistry for several reasons:
-Dental implants provide more stability in restoring a bite force strong enough to handle foods that dentures can’t handle as well such as apples, steak, or corn on the cob.
-Dental implants are easier to maintain because they’re covered with a dental crown that looks and functions just like a natural tooth.
-Dental implants can last you the rest of your life, while dentures need to be replaced every few years.
But unfortunately, you might not have a strong enough foundation to support an implant. What then?
- Bone Grafting
Your jawbone needs to be able to support an implant, which acts as an artificial root. If your jawbone has deteriorated or become too weak, for whatever reason, it may not be able to adequately attach to and stabilize a dental implant.
A bone graft can help! This procedure uses calcium material to fill and protect the affected area where bone has been lost or weakened. A bone graft allows you to grow more bone that’s natural, healthy, and eventually strong enough to support a dental implant.
- Sinus Lift
Sometimes, in order to increase the likelihood of your dental implant candidacy, you may need to consider a sinus lift. A dental implant must have a foundation of strong, healthy bone that can help provide it with enough support and stability. It also needs enough room. That’s where a sinus lift can help because it’s a way to “lift” your sinus cavity in preparation for your implant placement.
Sinus lift procedures at the LANAP & Implant Centers are performed using the latest in cutting-edge dental technology, as well as homeopathic care, for optimized recovery and healing!
Schedule A Consultation At The LANAP & Implant Center
If you’ve exhausted all of your options with professionals who insist dental implants aren’t right for you, it’s time to put your tooth replacement into the capable hands of our specialists. We have a team of highly qualified dental professionals who can help you explore bone graft and sinus lift procedures that could be just what you need. When you come to one of our two Philadelphia locations, you will meet with someone who has the skills and experience to make sure we’ve explored every possibility for getting your mouth back to full function again.
It all starts with a phone call! Call 610-409-6064 for our Collegeville, PA office or 570-322-4741 for our Montoursville location. You can also fill out our convenient online form to set up an appointment.

A Letter To Our Family & Friends regarding Coronavirus (Covid-19)
Dear Friends,
At the Lanap & Implant Center of Pennsylvania, it has always been our goal to protect the health and safety of our patients and staff. The Lanap & Implant Center of Pennsylvania uses Intensive Universal Transmission and Transmission-Based Precautions.
However, based on the very serious nature of this virus and pandemic the office is closed for the next 2 weeks. At the Lanap & Implant Center of Pennsylvania, as appointments are booked for April we will be gathering information about the well-being and recent travel history of every patient.
If it is determined that a patient may have an acute illness or was exposed to one, treatment at our office will be deferred until the patient has recovered. Everyone should begin self isolation immediately only going shopping for food and nowhere else.
The coronavirus (COVID-19) situation remains clear; isolate, shut down and stay healthy. We promise to share with you what we believe will help you and your family. As a nation the faster we stop moving about, the faster this will remit.
Coronavirus Concerns & Precautions
The novel coronavirus is known to cause a respiratory fibrosis (COVID-19), with symptoms of fever, coughing and difficulty breathing. There is currently no vaccination to protect against COVID-19, nor are there drugs to specifically treat the virus. However, there are protocols which have been successful. Based on personal first hand knowledge, the disease will destroy diabetics, medically compromised patients and healthy patients young or old.
Covid-19 is very dangerous a combination of SARS, HIV, INFLUENZA with a bacterial vector called PROVETELLA. If anyone you know has symptoms of a virus here are some simple differentiations.
The Coronavirus may not show sign of infection for 14 plus days after exposure. A fever with achy bones will ensue for 5 to 7 days. Some people will remit others will progress to monitor lung involvement, take a deep breath and hold your breath for more than 10 seconds. If you complete it successfully without coughing, without discomfort, stiffness or tightness, etc., it indicates there may be no Fibrosis in lungs. In critical time, please self-check every morning. Take a few sips of water every 15 minutes at least.
Why? Even if the virus gets into your mouth, drinking water or other liquids will wash them down through your throat and into the stomach. Once there, your stomach acid will kill all the virus. If you don’t drink enough water more regularly, the virus can enter your windpipe and into the lungs. That’s very dangerous. Please send and share this with family and friends.
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT – CORONAVIRUS
- If you have a runny nose and sputum, you may have a common cold.
- Coronavirus pneumonia is a dry cough with no runny nose.
- This virus is NOT heat-resistant and It hates the Sun.
- If someone sneezes with it, it takes about 10 feet before it drops to the ground and is no longer airborne.
- If it drops on a metal surface it will live for at least 12 hours – so if you come into contact with any metal surface – wash your hands as soon as you can with a bacterial soap.
- On fabric it can survive for 6-12 hours, normal laundry detergent will kill it. Leave your clothes in the garage after entering from grocery store.
- Drinking warm water is effective for all viruses. Do not drink liquids with ice.
- Wash your hands frequently as the virus can only live on your hands for 5-10 minutes, but – a lot can happen during that time – you can rub your eyes, pick your nose unwittingly and so on.
- You should also gargle as a prevention. A simple solution of salt in warm water will suffice. Also gargle with vinegar for 30 seconds tilt your head back so it gets to the back of your throat and spit out.
- Can’t emphasis enough – drink plenty of water!
THE SYMPTOMS
- It will first infect the throat, so you’ll have a sore throat lasting 3/4 days.
- The virus then blends into a nasal fluid that enters the trachea and then the lungs, causing pneumonia. This takes about 5/6 days further.
- With the pneumonia comes high fever and possibly lung involvement which may lead to difficulty in breathing.
- The nasal congestion is not like the normal kind. You feel like you’re drowning. It’s imperative you then seek immediate attention. Only call your health care provider or go to the Hospital if you feel you have lung involvement.
Nutritional protocol: zinc, b vitamins, phospholipid vit c (5000mg daily), quercetin, Vit d3 / K2 sublingual delivery / immune boosting herbs, 1 billion probiotic daily.
A good protocol for wellness prevention and viral exposures is:
- Iv therapy
- Vitamin C
- Magnesium sulfate
- Sodium bicarbonate
- Vitamin B12
- in ringer solution, not in Na
If you have corona and are very sick then you will want to use a specific IV therapy which has been shown to be extremely effective.
For any friends or family involved please contact us directly at [email protected].
Please contact us for specific protocols and any questions.

Standard Precautions are the minimum infection prevention practices that apply to all patient care, regardless of the suspected or confirmed infection status of the patient, in any setting where health care is delivered.
Transmission-Based Precautions include Contact Precautions, Droplet Precautions and Airborne Precautions, and are based on the likely routes of transmission of specific infectious agents.
- Our office protocols are designed to protect both Dental Healthcare Personnel (DHCP) and you, our patients. These precautions include:
- Hand hygiene
- Use of personal protective equipment (e.g., gloves, masks, eyewear)
- Respiratory hygiene / cough etiquette
- Sharps Safety (engineering and work practice controls)
- Safe injection practices (i.e., aseptic technique for parenteral medications)
- Sterilization of instruments and devices. All instruments are sterilized or used once and disposed of.
- All surfaces of our dental treatment rooms are cleaned and disinfected after every patient.
The materials and methods used have been shown to be effective for viruses. As with flu outbreaks that came before it, we believe the current coronavirus situation will pass. At present, however, keeping aware of the latest information can lead to the proper balance of caution with reduced fear.
We remain committed to keeping you informed, as well as protecting your health and safety. If you would like to find out more on your own, we highly recommend the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center at https://coronavirus.jhu.edu
Please feel free to share any questions or concerns you may have with us

2 Health Benefits Of A Smile Makeover
If you’re unhappy with your smile, then you are probably too familiar with the toxic, negative energy it can create in your life. Damaged or missing teeth are more than just an embarrassment. They’re a source of emotional anguish, as well. They steal your joy, influence your decisions, and can force you to isolate yourself out of fear or feelings of unworthiness.
Naturally, it can make you think of your dream smile and how it’s probably out of your reach. You think, perhaps, a smile makeover will be too expensive. Your smile is in need of so much repair, there’s no way you could handle it financially.
Or maybe you’re afraid of the type of extensive, invasive, and painful procedures it would take to fix all the dental problems you have. In fact, fear of the dentist is probably what lead to all of those problems in the first place.
Whatever has held you back from making over your smile, our team at the LANAP & Implant Center wants you to know that the smile you’ve always wanted can be within your reach. Not only that, you need to know that a transformed smile benefits more than just your appearance.
Today, we’re sharing two powerful ways a smile makeover can benefit your health.
Eat Better With A Smile Makeover
Dental problems affect more than just your smile’s appearance. They can have a profoundly negative impact on your health, particularly when it comes to nutrition. You’re probably well aware of how what you eat affects your teeth. We hear all the time growing up that we should avoid too much sugar because it can cause tooth decay and cavities, for example.
What we don’t hear much about, however, is how your teeth affect what you eat! Let’s consider some common problems people face with damaged teeth:
-You’ve lost teeth due to an injury, accident, or health issue such as gum disease.
-You have poor bite alignment.
-You have hot and cold tooth sensitivity.
-You have an infected tooth root that makes eating certain foods painful or uncomfortable.
-You have cracked, chipped, or broken teeth.
Obviously, these sort of problems can make you feel embarrassed about how you look when you smile, laugh, and speak. But how do these dental problems affect your dietary decisions?
Damaged or missing teeth will making eating a difficult, and oftentimes, painful experience. To compensate for that, you avoid certain healthy foods like lean protein and crunchy fruits and vegetables. You might opt for mostly soft foods, which limits your nutrition significantly.
A smile makeover involves any type of cosmetic or restorative treatments that repair all that damage so you can have a fully-functioning set of teeth once again. It helps you regain the ability to bite and chew comfortably so that you can finally eat all the delicious, healthy foods you’ve likely been avoiding for a long time.
So it’s not just about how you look. It’s about function. A smile makeover restores your function and allows you to make better dietary decisions, which overall, will vastly improve your health.
Handle Stress More Easily With A Smile Makeover
Have you ever thought about how stress affects your health? Some studies suggest that many of our chronic diseases can be traced back to stress. When you’re under a great deal of stress, whether it’s because of issues at work or the demands of parenthood, the level of cortisol in your body will increase. Cortisol is a steroid hormone that’s released throughout the body, and just how much of it is released depends on the kind of demand that’s being placed on your body at any given moment.
Highly stressful situations and circumstances will result in higher levels of cortisol that can throw your hormones out of balance. That imbalance can make you much more susceptible to systemic health problems.
So how does this relate to a smile makeover? Well, it’s quite simple. When you feel good about how you look, you smile more. You laugh more. You become emotionally alive and less inhibited. There’s a psychological liberation when that heavy burden of embarrassment has been lifted. You start to feel… happy. When you smile more, your body releases those feel good endorphins that can help you achieve a healthier balance, inside and out.
When you look good, you feel good, and feeling good emotionally will help you manage stress more effectively.

Lyme Disease
According to a recently written article by Dr. Mercola on his website Mercola.com, Lyme disease is on the rise. And not only in the northeastern United States where it has been most prevalent—and has increased by more than 320 percent according to research—but also in states where the disease has never been found before, such as the Midwestern states of Iowa, Minnesota and Michigan.
Lyme disease is an illness that is spread by either biting or blood-sucking insects. In the United States, the black-legged deer tick is most closely associated with the transmission of the disease. However, Dr. Dietrick Klinghardt, an expert on Lyme disease, says the bacteria that causes Lyme infection can also be spread by mosquitoes, mites, fleas and spiders. However, tick bites are probably the most common transmitter of Lyme disease, which is marked by:
- Severe fatigue
- Fever
- Headaches, as serious as a migraine
- Muscles and joints that ache
Without treatment, Lyme disease symptoms may expand to become more serious and include muscle spasms, a lack of motor coordination, heart illness, spinal meningitis and even sporadic paralysis. Obviously, the need to properly diagnosis and treat Lyme disease is crucial.
The question, of course: what is the best treatment? First of all, Dr. Mercola recommends a Lyme test with the specialized lab, IGeneX, which has a test that can detect Lyme when standard blood tests cannot. The organisms that cause Lyme disease are known to work in secret and are, therefore, often undetected in an ordinary blood test. Thus, many Lyme disease patients are incorrectly diagnosed or told, “it’s all in your head,” despite the expansion of symptoms.
Lyme Disease Treatment
Dr. Mercola recommends trying natural alternatives for treating Lyme disease before turning to a lengthy course of antibiotics, which can leave your natural gut microbiome out of balance and may make you more susceptible to yeast or fungal infections. Dr. Mercola’s alternative medicine mentor, Dr. Lee Cowden, offers an alternative to conventional antibiotics: the Nutramedix line of herbal antimicrobials. Boosting your natural immune system with a healthy diet and additional antioxidants can also prove helpful in fighting Lyme disease. Some of the things you may want to add to your diet include: probiotics, krill oil, grapefruit see extract, cilantro, Resveratrol and CoQ10.

You Don’t Need Metal Dental Implants To Restore Your Smile
We want to do what is best for our patients whether we are replacing a single tooth or all their teeth. In both of those situations, we would recommend dental implants as part of the process.
But we go a step further than many dental practices. We offer both traditional titanium implants and metal-free implants at our dentist offices in Collegeville and Montoursville, PA. We will help you choose the right implants so we can move forward to restore your smile.
Make an appointment at the LANAP & Implant Center of Pennsylvania to learn about our dental implant options. Call 610-228-4366 or 570-505-6908 or contact us online to schedule a consultation with one of our dentists.
A Holistic Approach To Teeth Replacement
We want to start by saying how much dental implants have improved teeth replacements for people across the world.
Traditional dentures rest over your gumline. They require held to keep them in place, but adhesives only provide temporary benefits. Over time, your dentures will come loose more often and more easily. Eventually, you will have to refit or replace them.
By getting implant-supported dentures, you have a way to secure your dentures in place. The implants serve as a replacement for the roots of your teeth. As such, they anchor your dentures in position and allow to regain much more of your original biting and chewing ability.
Most modern dental implants are made of titanium, which is fine … unless you have an allergy that makes titanium a problem.
Because Dr. DiGiallorenzo believes in a holistic approach to dental care, he wants to be able to help every patient who walks in our door. That’s why we offer metal-free dental implants, too.
Call us if you would like to learn more about this next step in the evolution of restorative dental care.
The Benefits Of Metal-Free Dental Implants
We recommend our metal-free implants for anyone with a metal allergy. However, you may find reasons you prefer them even if you don’t have a metal allergy.
As a periodontology practice, our dentists are experts on gum health. We have found that zirconia – the material used to make metal-free implants – has some advantages for any patient
▶︎ Zirconia is biocompatible.
This is important. Biocompatibility is one of the reasons titanium is used in traditional implants (unless you have a metal allergy). With zirconia, you can get the stability benefits of dental implants without the concerns about an allergic reaction.
► Zirconia is good for the appearance of your smile.
Titanium implants do a lot of things well. However, they do have some drawbacks, too. In some cases, patients will have a dark area near the gumline that can affect how your smile looks to other people and how you feel about your smile.
Zirconia is much more similar in color to your natural roots. This means your teeth replacements – and your smile – look incredibly natural and lifelike.
► Zirconia can help fight gum disease.
Hang on because this one requires a little explanation. Zirconia has properties that actually can interfere with plaque and tartar buildup. This can lower your risk of gum disease, which could affect the stability of your implants.
By getting zirconia implants, you may be making it easier to keep them in place for longer.
We have notices that more and more patients have become interested in holistic dental care. We have incorporated a number of alternative treatments into our practice through our connection with The Wellness Center.
Our zirconia metal-free implants are just another example of our desire to do everything we can for our patients.
Experience With Metal-Free Implants
There may not be any dentist in the United States who can match Dr. DiGiallorenzo’s experience with zirconia implants.
The Swiss biotechnology company Z-Systems choose his practice to begin using their zirconia implants in the U.S. in 2009. The success he had not only helped our patients but also helped push the technology forward as well.
Dr. DiGiallorenzo visited Switzerland in 2012 to examine a new design for zirconia implants. This improved design has since been introduced in the United States.
We are proud of the role our practice has played in helping our own patients, but also other patients who have benefited from the collaboration between our dentist and Z-Systems.
A Holistic Approach To Implant Placement
As we mentioned earlier, the metal-free dental implants available at the LANAP & Implant Center are only part our holistic approach. During your visit, you also can take advantage of services like reflexology, meridian balancing, and metal detoxification protocols.
Schedule a consultation today by filling out our online form or calling one of our offices at 610-409-6064 or 570-322-4741.

Holistic Dentistry and Recovery from Oral Surgery
When you undergo surgery – whether it is centered within the mouth or anywhere else in the body – the natural healing process begins immediately. The body strives to repair itself beginning on day one, so it is important to aid in this process as much as possible to ensure success of the procedure. Dr. David DiGiallorenzo and his team place an immense amount of focus on overall wellness from start to finish, utilizing minimally invasive surgical techniques wherever possible. With a uniquely holistic approach and the latest technology available in the industry, we help patients heal and recover more quickly following surgery so that they can continue with their daily lives sooner.
How Holistic Dentistry Aids in Healing
A holistic approach to dentistry and specifically to oral surgery allows for accelerated healing and improved patient comfort. While the body will begin work to heal itself naturally, it does need the tools to do so properly. Rather than simply treat discomfort with pain medication and wait for healing to occur, we can proactively support the body’s natural defenses and abilities from the inside out. One way to do this is to ensure that you are giving your body the rest and nutrients it needs immediately following surgery.
Though many oral surgery patients feel uninclined to eat or drink much following a procedure like periodontal therapy or dental implant placement, the fact is that giving your body strength via nutrition is the best thing you can do. Focus on vitamins C, E, and B complex, as well as zinc, iron, and magnesium. Drink plenty of water, but avoid straws until healing is complete. Talk with Dr. DiGiallorenzo about nutritional therapy as well to learn more about the important role that food plays in healing following surgery.
The rate at which you recovery after a surgical procedure also hinges upon the way the surgery was performed. Because we use soft tissue laser technology rather than traditional scalpels and sutures, the tissue treated is cauterized immediately and stitches are unnecessary. The result is less discomfort for the patient and a shorter recovery period.
Discover the Difference for Yourself
At LANAP & Implant Center of Pennsylvania in Collegeville, PA and Montoursville, PA, Dr. DiGiallorenzo invites you to experience the innumerable benefits of holistic dentistry. Contact our office today to schedule your consultation with our caring, knowledgeable team. We gladly serve patients from throughout nearby communities in Lock Haven, Sunbury, Bloomberg, Pottstown, and more.

The oral cavity remains deeply connected to each organ system and all cranial nerves. It remains the most overlooked aspect of health and wellness.
Therefore, balancing is critical.
For this reason, comprehensive dental detoxification and rehabilitation becomes crucial in establishing health and wellness.

Detoxification’s Role in Treating Gum Disease
Montoursville AND COLLEGEVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA- We believe in taking a whole-body approach to treating patients with gum disease, which is reflected in the types of periodontal services we offer in our Collegeville and Montoursville periodontist’s offices.
The truth is, study after study continues to confirm that as goes the mouth, so goes the entire body. This knowledge has prompted us to constantly consider the bigger picture when it comes to treatment. That is why we introduced detoxification and biostimulation therapy to the gum disease treatment regimen.
Gum Disease- Symptoms & Causes
Before we get into how we treat gum disease, let’s share some information on what causes the disease, as well as its symptoms.
Gum disease- also known as periodontal disease – can be caused by smoking and using other tobacco products. It also can be hereditary, brought on by diabetes, or caused by certain medications or poor oral hygiene, says Dr. David DiGiallorenzo, a provider of affordable dental implant procedures.
- Signs of gum disease include:
- Tooth sensitivity
- Receding gums
- Red, swollen gums
- Moving/shifting of the teeth
- Loose teeth
- Pus between gums and teeth
- Tooth loss
- Bad breath
- Bleeding gums
If left untreated, the side effects of gum disease can become more serious and lead to malaise- a general feeling of discomfort or illness- digestive disorders and hyper-inflammatory response, says Dr. DiGiallorenzo who also is an expert in the placement of titanium dental implants.
Non-Surgical Treatment
When it comes to treating gum disease, we believe in taking the least invasive, most pain-free approach- LANAP, which stands for laser-assisted new attachment procedure. This procedure provides an alternative to traditional gum surgery that involves a scalpel and sutures.
“Rather than cutting and suturing, which results in pain and tenderness afterward, we use a laser to gently glide between the teeth and gums to remove diseased tissue,” says Dr. DiGiallorenzo. “This means less pain, a less-intrusive procedure and a speedy recovery process.”
When recommending LANAP, Dr. DiGiallorenzo also recommends a full body bio detoxification prior to and during the procedure, he says. The body is full of toxins, so taking measures to remove them prior to the procedure helps prepare the body. Undergoing detoxification during the procedure helps ensure that all of the diseased portions of the gum and related toxins as a result of the disease removal are promptly flushed from the body.
We also prescribe biostimulation therapy following LANAP. It is a treatment designed to promote gum tissue repair and rejuvenation by stimulating the body’s electrical healing system.
Untreated gum disease has been linked to more serious systemic problems including heart attack and stroke. We believe that by utilizing detoxification processes and biostimulation therapy when treating gum disease, we are taking extra measures to ensure toxic materials are flushed from the body before they can contribute to such serious health conditions.
Dr. David DiGiallorenzo.

Does Having A Dental Implant Mean You Can Worry Less About Gum Disease?
You’ve just had a missing tooth replaced with a dental implant. Now that you have a man-made anchor acting as the tooth root and a porcelain crown taking the place of your natural tooth, you don’t have to worry about something like gum disease anymore, right?
Not so fast. You must care for restored dental implants as diligently as you would your natural teeth, because implants can be just as susceptible to gum disease. In fact, it is estimated that 50 percent of all dental implants may be afflicted with gum disease.
That’s because calculus and tartar can accumulate on your implant at your gumline, irritate your gums, and potentially lead to periodontal disease. Implants may be more susceptible to bacterial breakdown than natural teeth. Don’t forget: they are orthopedic anchors.
“A dental implant looks and functions just like a normal tooth and should be treated as such,” says Dr. David DiGiallorenzo. “Because of the likelihood of gum disease, you want to be particularly diligent in your oral care routine.”
Failing to do so means your dental implant can become infected and loosen from your jaw. Improper care also can result in a condition known as peri-implantitis. This is an infection that can occur if bacteria is present during oral surgery, or any time following surgery without proper dental hygiene.
This condition causes your gum to become inflamed, and also can affect the jawbone around your dental implant.
Peri-implantitis can lead to bone loss and ultimately, implant failure. While we can treat the infection in some cases, we often must remove the implant as a result of the inflammation.
Patients at increased risk of developing peri-implantitis include diabetics, smokers, those who have thin gums, and those with poor oral hygiene.
We offer the following for oral health maintenance recommendations to our dental implants patients:
- Brush at least twice daily using a Sonicare toothbrush
- Regular interval professional cleanings
- Coconut oil pulling
- Massage the gums with your electronic toothbrush
- Remove any screw-retained appliances at least yearly for cleaning
- Nutritional enhancement with prebiotic and probiotics, which is a natural, noninvasive approach to treating disease
- Enzyme suppression to prevent the body from breaking down bone and gum tissue
- Risk factor modification. That means helping patients get their diabetes under control, stopping smoking, and prescribing medications as necessary to help your immune system fight against infection.
If your implant develops inflammation, the best therapy is Laser Assisted Periodontal Implant Procedure, referred to as LAPIP.
Protect your investment in your smile, and protect your health by taking proper care of your dental implants. Make sure you undergo routine periodontal checkups, which involve examining your teeth, gums, and bone structure to evaluate your gum disease risk.
Please call our office today if it’s time to schedule your periodontal checkup.
