Give Your Smile A Fresh Start This Spring With Dental Sedation! [BLOG]

tooth removeIn so many cases, patients with a history of significant oral health problems can trace everything back to fear of the dentist. Not a typical level of fear like many people have where you kind of dread going to the dentist but aren’t too afraid to get the routine care you need.

It’s a paralyzing fear that keeps them out of the dental chair altogether. Not for tooth fillings, not for dental crowns, not even for twice-annual dental cleanings and exams.

Without professional dental care, no amount of brushing and flossing at home will be enough to sustain your oral health over the long term, which is why our experts at the LANAP & Implant Center want you to know how we can help you overcome your dental phobia in Collegeville and Montoursville, PA so your smile, and your life, can start fresh!

Give Your Smile A Fresh Start With Dental Sedation!

Here are some of the ways our comfortable environment, caring staff, and dental sedation options can help you reclaim your healthy, beautiful smile:

*We Create A Comfortable Atmosphere*

One of our top priorities is to maintain an office atmosphere that feels warm, inviting, and comfortable. Anyone who struggles with dental anxiety will have a hard time relaxing in a cold, sterile environment, which is why we’ve created a cozier setting at the LANAP & Implant Center.

It’s also why we offer private operatories and longer appointments. You’ll never be pressured or rushed during your visits with us! Our goal is for you to be happy and healthy, so it’s important to us that you feel supported from the start by our team of compassionate, caring professionals.

If you need more time, more help, or have questions about your dental treatment, all you have to do is ask, and we’re happy to cater to your comfort and ease your mind as much as possible.

*We Provide Two Levels Of Dental Sedation*

Being cozy is nice, but fearful patients need more than that to feel calm and relaxed during their dental treatment.

That’s why we’ve invested in the necessary study and training required to safely administer two powerful, effective types of dental sedation.

The first is oral sedation, a prescription pill that you take before your appointment so that by the time you’re in the dental chair, your body is completely relaxed. You’ll be awake and aware of everything that’s going on, but you won’t really care, which is ideal for patients with mild to moderate anxiety.

Because the sedative lasts long enough for you to get through treatment, you’ll need to arrange a ride to and from your appointment. For many patients, oral sedation is just the ticket for feeling relaxed and calm.

For moderate to a severe dental phobia, and for longer, more complicated procedures, IV sedation at the LANAP & Implant Center is a great way to get through your dental treatment more easily. You’ll be in a deep state of relaxation and won’t care about, or even recall, the details of your treatment experience, which for fearful patients, sounds like the ideal way to experience dentistry, right?

Try It For Yourself!

We hope that today’s blog has opened your eyes to the possibilities for your smile and your health when you rely on dental sedation under our watchful, expert care.

But we know that when it comes to a dental phobia, you’ll only be able to fully appreciate the benefits of sedation when you’ve experienced it for yourself.

Taking that first step is the hardest, so we go out of our way to make you feel welcome and supported from the moment you enter our office. We’ll work hard to make sure your experiences with us, from start to finish, are pleasant and positive.

You have nothing to fear and everything to gain at the LANAP & Implant Center!

We want to give you back full oral function, a healthy smile, and the fulfilling life you deserve, and if fear has been standing in the way of that, our dental sedation options can help you have it all!

Bounce Back From Poor Dental Health With Gum Grafting! [BLOG]

gum graftingOur team at the LANAP & Implant Center wants to honor Gum Disease Awareness Month by giving you the tools to prevent this potentially devastating infection.

We do that, in part, by providing a vast range of integrated dentistry services in our Collegeville and Montoursville practices so that you not only have the resources to improve your oral health but also to optimize your total wellness moving forward.

But another way we try to help our patients is with our dental blog, where we share information about problems that can affect your smile and the advanced solutions we offer to keep it strong and healthy.

Today, we’re talking about state-of-the-art gum grafting at the LANAP & Implant Center that uses more comfortable, effective methods for restoring unhealthy gums than you’ll likely find in most standard dental practices!

Why Your Gums Are Receding…

Receding gums not only leave your tooth roots exposed and vulnerable, but it puts you in danger of losing your teeth! Gum recession can lead to increased tooth sensitivity, painful or limited oral function, and a number of other problems with your dental health.

We can restore the health and appearance of your gums, and even replace any teeth you’ve lost as a result, but to enjoy better oral health over the long term, it’s important to understand what led to your gum recession in the first place so you can work to prevent it in the future.

Some common reasons your gums might recede are:

  • Genetics
  • Gum disease
  • Brushing teeth too vigorously
  • Untreated dental injuries
  • Lack of routine dental care
  • Hormone changes

Bounce Back With A Gum Graft Procedure!

Your teeth need a stable foundation, which means you need a way to restore and strengthen recessed gums and protect your smile moving forward.

At the LANAP & Implant Center, we perform gum grafting procedures using state-of-the-art methods that optimize patient comfort, treatment success, and smooth recovery. Using donor-less tissue from the roof of your mouth, we can cover exposed tooth roots where your gums have receded and applied plasma rich in growth factors (PRGF) from your own blood sampling to the area for faster, easier healing. We’re able to use PRGF as part of our gum graft procedures, something you won’t find in a typical dental practice, thanks to our advanced training and specialization.

It’s another way we go above and beyond to invest in our patients and create the most comfortable, positive experiences we can for each and every one of you!

The Benefits of Zirconia Dental Implants

zirconia implantDental implants made from titanium and zirconia are the best solution to missing teeth, provided you have healthy jawbone and gums.

Dr. David DiGiallorenzo and Dr. Henry Hsu often prefer zirconia dental implants over titanium, due to the holistic approach that they take to dentistry. Zirconia has only been FDA-approved in the United States since 2011, and Dr. DiGiallorenzo was the first to market and utilize this technology with his integrative approach.

When Dr. DiGiallorenzo and Dr. Hsu consider dental implants, which are the only permanent solution to missing teeth, they consider what will be the strongest, most biocompatible option. Dental implant placement is ideal when periodontists are able to use the least reactive and least toxic material possible. Zirconia implants are metal-free, durable and have an excellent track record of long-term success. This makes them an excellent choice for patients who have a sensitivity to metals commonly used in dentistry. Metals induce galvanic reactions, which can influence meridians and cause cellular blocks, as well as toxicity, Dr. DiGiallorenzo said.

Zirconia implants also are known for their favorable mechanical properties and their decreased chance of accumulating plaque, according to the Journal of Oral Implantology.

Studies that investigated stress distribution patterns of zirconia implants have revealed that they are low and well-distributed, which means they are nondestructive.

Bone loss and gum recession sometimes uncover portions of metal implants, which reveals a bluish discoloration of the overlying gum tissue, the JOI article stated. Zirconia implants don’t carry this complication because they are white in color.

Zirconia’s color is appealing to periodontists who promote aesthetic restorations because once a zirconia implant is restored with a beautiful porcelain crown, there is no darkness to the tooth.

Who is a candidate for zirconia implants?

A metal-free approach is well tolerated by the human body. We routinely use PRGF to improve the healing process when using zirconium tooth replacements. Although zirconia implants aren’t right for everyone, the following are several characteristics of ideal candidates:

  • Healthy gums.
  • High-quality, healthy jawbone is required to allow implants to become integrated into the jaw and effectively serve as a tooth root.
  • Commitment to a strong oral hygiene regimen to care for the implanted teeth and surrounding gums. Brushing and flossing daily is essential.
  • Regular visits to the periodontist for follow-up are also important.

Critical criteria for success also include no metabolic diseases, no smoking, and ideal occlusal parameters and restorative parameters, Dr. DiGiallorenzo said.

The best way to learn whether you can replace your missing teeth with dental implants is to schedule a consultation with one of our periodontists. We will conduct a thorough exam complete with X-rays so we can create a diagnosis and treatment plan designed to meet your unique dental health needs. Resolve to Improve Oral Health in 2019

gum reshapingWe’re halfway through the month and statistically, Jan. 17 is D-Day for New Year’s resolutions.

That’s the day most people give up on their goals and revert to their old ways, according to Strava, a social network for athletes.

Instead of following in the path of so many others, why not treat this time of year as a reset? While you’re recommitting to those resolutions, resolve to improve your oral health in 2019, too. Here are some tips to help you in your journey.

1. Maintain a good home care regimen.

Brushing your teeth after meals and flossing daily are effective habits you can practice to keep your teeth and gums healthy between periodontal checkups. Keep a toothbrush and toothpaste in your desk at work so you can brush after lunch daily.

At home, using an electric or sonic toothbrush helps clean teeth and ensure that you brush for the proper length of time. Some brands of these toothbrushes beep to indicate when to move on to the next quadrant in your mouth, and turn off automatically after brushing for two minutes.

2. Be consistent with your maintenance and follow treatment recommendations.

If you have gum disease, periodontal checkups and cleanings are a must to help keep the disease under control by preventing it from advancing. These appointments include X-rays to see areas of your mouth that aren’t visible with the naked eye, and are useful in identifying decay in its earliest stages. These appointments also include periodontal checks for signs of gum disease, as well as treatment recommendations.

Follow through with your recommended treatment plans for periodontal therapy or tooth replacement. It will go a long way to improve your oral health and your overall health.

3. Stop using tobacco products.

This is a popular item on many people’s New Year’s resolutions lists, and we highly recommend it for its oral health benefits. Tobacco products can cause stains on teeth, gum disease, tooth loss, and oral cancer. Please call if you’d like information on smoking cessation treatments.

4. Replace missing teeth.

Failing to replace teeth that have been lost to decay or trauma can lead to other oral health problems, including shifting teeth, changes in bite, inability to chew foods properly, and loss of bone. Dental implants are the next best thing to natural teeth, and the only permanent tooth replacement option. We offer immediate tooth replacement in a single visit, as well as permanent implant solutions for dentures. Call our office today to learn more about these life-changing treatments.

5. Avoid gum disease.

Our biggest desire is to help you avoid getting periodontal disease in the first place, because it cannot be cured- only treated. A string of dental floss between your fingers is one of the most powerful weapons against gum disease. Nothing works as well at removing plaque and bits of food from between teeth and beneath the gum line between teeth. Some electric toothbrushes include special massage or gum-care cleaning modes, which also can be beneficial.

Good luck with your resolutions. We’re rooting for you!
